MIRI: Hardcore poor single mother Zaimah Darani is grateful for her now safe and comfortable home, which has been rebuilt by the government.

She was also thankful that her elected representative, Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin, took an interest in resolving her problems.

“Now I can stay in the house as it is in good condition,” she said.

Last month, The Borneo Post highlighted that Zaimah’s house, which was built under the Hardcore Poor Housing Project, was on the verge of collapse.

The house’s wooden stilts were tilted, unstable, and dangerous, particularly during the rainy season.

Lee, who is Senadin assemblyman, contacted the Miri District Office and got the contractor to repair the house.

“The people’s problems are of utmost priority to me. Through my own initiative, the problem was solved accordingly as the contractor was willing to repair the house.

“What is important for me is the house must be rebuilt again and be in good condition for the owner to live in and therefore solve the issue,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

Lee stressed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government is caring and always takes appropriate action to ensure the people are taken care of and their problems resolved.

Meanwhile, Kuala Baram Rukun Tetangga chairman Mohamad Azif Amin Abdullah, who initially highlighted the problem, praised Lee for his immediate action.

“Lee is one of the BN leaders who really goes down to the ground to meet his people and no doubt he is doing his job splendidly,” he said.
