KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said yesterday expressed his disappointment at Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for belittling the local batik production.

“We have worked so hard to introduce our batik abroad, and suddenly our own people belittled it (our batik).”

“If he does not like the Malaysian government, don’t say that everything is not right. Don’t be irrational. If he wants to support Indonesian batik, go ahead, but not to the extent of weakening our own batik production,” he said.

He said this when asked to comment on Anwar’s action which was alleged to have belittled local batik production at the Third Salihara Festival in Jakarta, recently.

Ahmad said the state government had been affected because Terengganu was a major producer of silk batik and batik textiles in the country. — Bernama
