Coal decision in response to public opinions – Liew

SANDAKAN: The scrapping of the proposed coal-fired plant in Sabah reflects the seriousness of the Sabah government in listening to public opinions said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

“I can only quote what Lenin had once said that the worst form of government is not the one that make mistakes but the one that is unable to correct the mistake made. In this particular case, a mistake is corrected and we must move on henceforth to ensure no more mistakes are made with regard to the development of energy supply in our state,” said Liew.

He commended the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Hj Aman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for coming to such a decision, thus ending months of anxiety among the people on the issue.

“We must now look into alternative power energy to sustain the electricity supply in the state. Throughout the years industries had suffered for want of electricity and this has deterred many investors from investing in Sabah. A constant and reliable energy and electricity supply is a must for industries to grow in Sabah,” said Liew.

“It may be of worthy consideration if the state government can consider setting up a committee or even a ministry now that we produce gas and oil in our own state to overseeing the fuel, oil, gas and energy supply in the state,” added Liew.
