Education Counselling and Seminar 2011 starts today

Posted on February 22, 2011, Tuesday

KUCHING: The annual Malaysian Higher Education Counselling & Seminar 2011 by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth is back.

SUPP Central Youth chairman Sih Hua Tong said this is the seventh year that SUPP Youth Education Unit and SUPP Central Education Bureau are organising this counselling and seminar programme for all post-SPM and STPM students.

“At this counselling and seminar, which will be held throughout the state, students are able to access information on all public higher learning institutions (IPTA) and get their questions answered by our counsellors,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

He reminded all STPM and SPM 2010 candidates of Unit Pusat Universiti (UPU)’s closing date for IPTA application, which is on April 4.

“JPA applications will close about ten day after the results are announced,” he added.

STPM results for the 2010 examination sitting were announced yesterday, while the results for SPM are expected to be out in the middle of March.

Meanwhile, Education Youth Central executive secretary Calvin Chin encouraged the students to join the Facebook group of the education counselling and seminar programme.

“Those with Facebook accounts can join the group by searching ‘Malaysian Higher Education Counselling & Seminar 2011 (Sarawak)’. This is an additional channel for students and applicants to interact with our counsellors from the comfort of their homes, as well as access to links of various education sites, information about loans and scholarships and more,” he said.

The group currently has about 1600 members.

“Like previous years, we hold the programme at various locations in Sarawak. Students and applicants can also come to our SUPP headquarters here,” said Education Affair secretary Steven Ngui.

He advised the applicants to come with some ideas of what courses they are interested in, so that the counsellors would be able to advise them accordingly.

In Kuching, the seminar will be held at Dewan Saati, SUPP headquarters on Feb 23 (7pm) and counselling sessions on Feb 22, 24 and 25 (7pm – 9pm). The public are advised to call 082-246999 for detailed information.
