KUCHING: The all-new Mazda5 which has won over 39 international awards since its launch has reached the shores of Kuching, at Maxspeed Automart Sdn Bhd (Maxspeed Automart) yesterday.

In line with the launch, the showroom’s business hours will be extended for this weekend; 8.30am to 10pm (Feb 26) and 8.30am to 6pm (Feb 27).

It was launched by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng.

The MPV has a sporty, youthful and beautiful look compared with other MPVs while retaining the practicality of the vehicle class.

The car’s attractive features include the power assisted dual-sliding doors and ‘Karakuri’ seat that is available exclusively for the Mazda5. The seat located in the middle row can become either a seat or utility box in a blink of an eye.

“The highlight of the exterior design is the four curvy lines found on two sides of the car, providing enhanced visual effects and lightness that few MPVs can match. The lines integrated perfectly with other curvy lines found on the car body, to create a cohesive flowing design theme that fully embraces the ‘nagare’ concept which is ‘flow’ in English,” said Maxspeed Automart sales manager Timothy Thaddeus Uzaraga.

“Safety is the top priority in any MPC, hence Mazda5 is equipped with a host of advanced safety features to provide comprehensive protection against any impact. Apart from the dual front airbags, electronic brake force distribution and brake assist, dynamic stability control, traction control system and front wipers with rain sensor,” he said.

More importantly, it inherited the good handling that all Mazda cars are famous for. With 5.3m minimum turning radius, Mazda5 enables the driver to handle the car with ease in urban area, and is responsible enough to let the driver change directions more quickly. This feature is crucial in some dangerous situations, but can’t be found on all MPVs available in Malaysia, he explained.

“As proof to its commitment to safety, Mazda5 had been awarded the best results in both Euro NCAP (five stars) and JNCAP (six stars) new car collision tests.”

He added that the powertrain of the all-new Mazda5 is powerful 2.0 in-line four 16-valve engine with a maximum output of 142hp and maximum torque of 180Nm.

Meanwhile, managing director Philip Lau targeted sales of 30 units Mazda5 per month.

He said that it was achieveable because the brand is widely accepted and offers wide range of safety feature, besides having a strong after sales service team.

“We have two 3S (sales, service and spare parts) centres in Sarawak, Kuching and Sibu, and one in Kota Kinabalu Sabah,” said Lau.

The fully imported car is available in seven body colours, Clear Water Blue Metallic, Aluminium Metallic, Crystal White Pearl Mica, Brilliant Black, Copper Red Mica, Stormy Blue Mica and Metropolitan Grey Mica.

Every new Mazda5 comes with three years warranty and three years free maintenance, inclusive of parts and labour, said Timothy.
