Handphone snatcher caught, handed to police

SIBU: A man in his 30s who snatched a handphone was apprehended after a chase, and was handed over to the police.

The incident occurred yesterday morning in Wong Nai Siong Road.

In the incident, a man with his two cousins were having a meal at a coffee shop after arriving from Kapit around 11.30am.

He left his handphone on the table.

Then the suspect came near, snatched the handphone and ran off.

“My cousins and I gave chase and we were able to apprehend the thief after he stumbled and fell,” the victim told reports when lodging a police report.

He said a few members of the public had also given their helping hands.

“When we caught the thief, some policemen happened to be nearby. We handed him over to the policemen,” he recalled.

In a separate case, a kindergarten in Kawi Road lost three units of rented computer and three DVD players said to worth about RM9,000 when it was broken into last Friday night.

A neighbour who noticed the front door ajar alerted the person-in-charge, a 51-year-old woman.

The person-in-charge lodged a police report after having checked the crime scene and found the said items missing.
