First GeniusBrain offers courses in learning skills

KUCHING: Students will excel in their studies if they have the right foundation in learning skills and independent thinking.

The main reason why some students do not do well in school is due to their studying method. At First GeniusBrain Centre in Kuching students will learn to overcome this problem and much more.

The centre’s founder Dr Thomas Hooi explained that students would gain in learning abilities, increase reading speed, develop examination skills, increase thinking abilities, increase memory power and discover their hidden abilities.

“Many parents send their children for extra tuition because they worry that their children can’t cope with the subjects in school. However, tuition is to gather information and will not address the main problem, which is learning skills,” Dr Hooi revealed during an interview at the centre yesterday.

He added that with the right foundation, students would do better in examinations, needed less time to study and more time to relax because they were already learning in school for five days a week.

The centre also teaches certain methods of learning and recalling more information during examinations, he said.

“GeniusBrain teachers are all experienced and certified and the classes contain a maximum of fifteen students so that full attention could be given to everyone. Furthermore, the classes are only for two hours a week so as not to burden the students,” he said.

The centre offers five courses – GeniusBrain Super Learning, GeniusBrain English Phonics, GeniusBrain Junior, GeniusBrain Maths and GeniusBrain Art.

The GeniusBrain Super learning is for those aged nine to 18 and classes are divided into primary and secondary; GeniusBrain English Phonics is for students four to nine years old, GeniusBrain Junior for five to eight years old, GeniusBrain Maths for six to 10 years old while GeniusBrain Art is for four to 16 years old students.

All courses are for one year except for GeniusBrain English Phonics that lasts for two years and GeniusBrain Art, three years.

Dr Hooi said upon completion, students will be given a certificate from the centre’s Singapore counterpart.

There are over 25 GeniusBrain centres in Malaysia. The first one in Sarawak, located in Kuching, has been in operation since September last year. There are also centres in Singapore and Brunei.

As the centre here is new, classes are currently held on weekends only.

Parents can also send their children for the centre’s school holiday programmes.

GeniusBrain was also awarded Top Excellence Brand 2010-2011 by the Global Business Magazine.

Meanwhile, parents are encouraged to make an appointment for a free child profiling to enable better communication between them.

“Parents will be given a profiling test to determine how their child think to promote better communication and build better relationship between parents and child. Some parents may be able to communicate well with one child but not so with another due to the different ways of thinking,” said Dr Hooi.

He added that the test is free if parents bring along a copy of this newspaper cutting, and valid for three months until May. Normal charge is RM80.

Parents can call in to make an appointment between 9am to 4.30pm daily.

The centre is located at 1st Floor, Lot 3151, Block 10, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce (on top of Five Loaves Cafe). Its contact number is 082-250900 or 017-8083696, or email firstgeniusbrain@hotmail.com or visit www.geniusbrain.com.
