MIRI: The more than 30,000 Sarawakians working and staying in Brunei were yesterday urged to return to the state to vote in the next state election.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam said the government would always try to ensure that they returned home to exercise their right.

“We are always working to bring them (Malaysian expatriates in Brunei) back to Sarawak to enable them to vote in the election,” said Dr Chan at a ceremony organised by Malaysian Newsprint Industries Sdn Bhd (MNI) in SMK Riam.

According to him, every vote of Malaysians outside the country is important with regard to the democratic system in the country.

As president of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), he said they would identify and devise the best ways to encourage the potential voters to return home for the election.

“We will find the best approach and method to attract them to return home to vote,” he said.
