Opposition running out of steam — Daud

KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman believes that the opposition parties are getting weaker by the day and that they have run out of issues to bring up against the government.

Meeting reporters at his office at Baitul Makmur at Petra Jaya near here yesterday, the Tupong assemblyman said the opposition front only knows how to play up old issues and their target in the next state election has changed.

“Firstly, they targeted to give BN (Barisan Nasional) a simple majority win but now, they admit that BN might win 2/3 majority again. As for land issues, it seems to be a never ending story they constantly bring up.

“They would sensationalise every little detail and weakness of the government. They want to criticise our development policy, yet they are practising the same thing. Worst, they even promise to deliver the impossible,” he added.

Daud pointed out that the opposition’s political game nowadays only revolved around smearing the names of BN’s top leadership and that there was no valid truth or factual strength in most issues that they brought up.

“It only shows that they just want to get sympathy votes,” he explained.

Daud also said the opposition parties knew that their strength here was declining and that was the main reason for them to constantly highlight issues that would raise the anger of the public.

Confident that the people would not be easily influenced by such claims, he stressed that the people’s strong faith in BN remained intact.

“BN has been with the people all this while and will continue to do so,” he said.
