The various Chinese-based organisations here have handed a memorandum of requests to Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud when he was here to officiate at the 110th anniversary celebration of Foochow settlement in Sibu.

Local Chinese community paramount leader Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming handed over the memo on Wednesday night.

Among the associations were United Chinese Association (UCA), Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), and the two associations representing the Chinese Independent secondary schools and Chinese primary schools.

According to a source, the requests included those seeking the chief Minister’s assistance on matters pertaining to education and land titles.

The purpose of the memo was to seek the chief minister’s help with regards to the various needs of the Chinese community.

Those present to witness the memo handover were SCCCI chairman Hu Yu Siong, UCA president Datuk Lau Nai Hoh and Second Finance Minister and Minister of Environment and Public Health Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.
