MIRI: Brunei is asking its people to take precautionary measures, following the recent cholera outbreak in the neigbouring Malaysian territory of Limbang.

Its health ministry made the call after two of six Bruneians who were down with diarrhoea after attending a wedding reception at Kampung Buang Abai in Limbang on March 6, were confirmed to have been afflicted with the disease.

At present, all six had recovered and returned home, it said in a statement reported by Brunei local newspapers yesterday.

It also advised Bruneians who recently made a trip to the district and suffering from diarrhoea, to seek treatment at the nearest health centres soon.

The ministry was also working closely with its Malaysian counterpart, following the developments, and was monitoring the situation of the outbreak.

Kampung Buang Abai is located on the upper stretches of the Limbang River and among settlements located close to the Brunei-Malaysia border.

Limbang is the northern-most division in Sarawak which is geographically separated from the rest of the state by Brunei.

Meanwhile, the latest number of cholera cases recorded by the Limbang Medical Department stood at 147, with two serious cases referred to the Miri Hospital. — Bernama
