Self-employed claims trial to possessing stolen car

KOTA KINABALU: A self-employed local man claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to possessing a stolen luxurious car belonging to a teacher.

Pui Vui Ching, 37, is charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of not less than six months and not more than five years, and shall also be liable to a fine upon conviction.

The undefended accused allegedly possessed the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado car bearing the number SS 5115 L belonging to the 41-year-old teacher in front of a building in Inanam at 2.45pm on March 14.

Magistrate Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim reserved July 5-6 this year for Pui’s trial and released him on RM2,500 bail deposited with two local sureties.

In a separate case, a Filipino will be tried on May 16 this year for a charge of trespassing on a handcraft market here.

Usman Sattalul, 24, who appeared before Noor Hafizah, is charged under Section 448 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of one year or with a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The accused allegedly trespassed on the market here at 4.30am on March 12.

Meanwhile, in the same court, an Indonesian maid who allegedly stole a silver ring belonging to her employer, will be tried on May 12 this year.

Antonia Ose, 33, is accused of stealing the ring belonging to the 28-year-old woman at a house at phase two of Taman Penampang at 10am on March 11.

The alleged offence under Section 381 of the Penal Code is punishable by seven years’ jail and shall also be liable to a fine upon conviction.

The court also ordered Usman and Antonia to be further held in custody under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code, pending disposal of their cases, as they have no valid travel documents.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Ismail Mohd Razali prosecuted all the cases.
