KUCHING: Fifteen-year-old violinist Nisa Addina Taufik and 23-year-old yo-yo player Ryan Chung Chuan Han are among the six participants to have won the judges’ hearts at the Kyan!me 2011 Audition yesterday.

FLUENT: Monique sings very well, even though she joined the audition at the last minute.

Nisa performed “Utau yo, Miracle!” from the popular anime K-ON while Ryan performed some very fast-paced and impressive freestyle yo-yo moves.

Other stellar performances include solo singing by Monique, Kimberly Chung Chai Yee and Angelyn Lim and also a magic show act by Hii Kheng Juong.

They were chosen from over 10 participants who signed up for this year’s audition.

These six participants will be performing at the 2nd Kyan!me convention, which is an anime, comics and games (ACG) convention held at The Hills Shopping Mall this June 10 to 12.

Judges Abigail Lim and Tabitha Rani had very favourable impression of all the participants, especially those who sang in the Japanese language, one of the criteria to take part in the audition in line with Kyan!me’s event theme.

Event organiser Kyan!me Society president Kimberly Lim said that there were more variety of performances this year, not just singing.

“I’m impressed with the participants who came with various talents, not just in singing but also in playing musical instruments, freestyle yo-yo and even a magic show.

“One or two singing participants were from last year and there was a great improvement in their singing and Japanese language proficiency, which is really good,” she said.

Nisa and Ryan, judged as the best performers, will be performing at the opening and closing ceremonies of Kyan!me 2011 Convention, in front of invited guests of honour from Japan as well as local audiences. The other selected performers will be performing at specific timeslots during the three-day event in June.

“To those who did not get selected, we hope that they will not give up and will improve themselves further. They can try again next year,” said Lim.
