SIBU: Hin Hua Poh Sen Association Sibu and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Sg Teku Sub-branch have proposed to rename a part of Brooke Drive, Datuk Teng Chin Hua Road.
The sub-branch chairman So Teck Kee said the part proposed was a 2-km stretch from Wawasan Road (Old Airport Road) to Brooke Drive Roundabout.
He said they had written a proposal to the Sibu Municipal Council.
“We submitted the letter last year. Recently, the exco members of the sub-branch and the association visited council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King to follow up on the matter,” he said.
So said the Hin Hua community here would celebrate the centenary of Hin Hua settlement in this area next year, and naming a road after one of their community leaders was justifiable and meaningful.
The association under the chairmanship of Philip Lau King Kah is drawing up an elaborate programme for the centennial celebration.
