KUALA LUMPUR: Total vehicle sales in February declined 0.65 per cent to 40,387 units from the 40,654 units recorded in the same month last year, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

The MAA also said the short working month in February and a seasonal trend caused sales growth to slow.

However, for the period of January-February, sales rose by 4.3 per cent to 95,168 units compared with 91,276 units in the same period last year, it said in a statementyesterday.

The sale of passenger vehicles in February slipped to 36,457 units from 36,551 units in the same month last year, while that of commercial vehicles dropped to 3,930 units from 4,103 units.

During the January-February period, passenger vehicles sales went up to 86,063 units from 82,524 units in the same period last year, while the sale of commercial units chalked up 9,105 units from 8,752 units.

Meanwhile, total vehicle production in February, increased to 40,941 units from the 40,272 units registered in the same month last year.

Passenger vehicle production in February move up to 37,399 units from the 36,740 units for the same period last year, and commercial vehicle production increased slightly to 3,542 units from 3,532 units.

The MAA said sales volume for March would be expected to recover and reach last year’s level as market conditions have returned to normal with the implementation of catch-up plans by car companies, interest rate offers and a longer working month.—Bernama
