Two-day youth carnival for Katibas constituency

FOR OUR YOUTHS: Blikau visiting the handicraft exhibition held at the centre over the weekend to coincide with the Youth Carnival (Karnival Mesra 1Belia) in Katibas constituency.

KAPIT: A two-day Youth Carnival (Karnival Mesra 1Belia) programme was recently held with keen participation by both young and old from Katibas state constituency.

Katibas incumbent Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan officiated at the event.

Held on March 19 and 20, the programme was organised by the Youth and Sports Department Kapit in collaboration with the youth movement in Katibas constituency.

Also attending the function was Blikau’s wife, Datin Marie Therese Malthias Blikau. Others in attendance were Song District Officer Galong Luang, Senior Supervisor of Community Development (Kemas) Kapit Ambrose Abong Bugek, SIDS Song Branch chairperson Kristy Simbah Inggong, community leaders and heads of various government departments.

Various activities were slotted in conjunction with the event to bring cheer to the celebrants. Also featured were side stalls and handicraft exhibition participated by various government agencies in Song district.

The programme took off with a mass aerobic exercise in the morning of March 19 followed by a telematch.

Highlighting the event was the mini regatta for powerboat racing held over the two days (March 19-20) involving 18hp tunnel boat, 18hp longboat (sangkut) and 30hp tunnel boat and 30hp longboat (sangkut) showcasing the participation of internationally renowned powerboat enthusiasts from Kapit and outside teams. For the 18hp longboat category, the race included the men and women events.

In the evening the local community and visitors were entertained to a public concert featuring renowned local recording artistes including Johnny Aman, Taju Remaung, Zizie (formerly of Akademi Fantasia reality show) and XPDC group.

For the benefit of musicians, a guitar clinic organised by the committee was conducted by a member of XPDC group, Izo to guide youth on basic guitar playing.

To attract bigger crowds, the organising committee organised the ‘Battle Of The Band’ to expose the musical talent of youths in the music industry while providing a venue for them to socialise and interact to enhance rapport among themselves.

By being actively involved in social activities, youths could refrain from indulging in social ills while being moulded into useful citizens who have good moral values, discipline and respect for others.
