KUCHING: SMK Green Road has recorded a 90 per cent pass rate for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in 2010, a 2 per cent increase as compared with 2009.

There were 52 students registered with straight As as compared to 35 in 2009.
Out of the 52, seven students scored straight A+ and one of them was Johnson Yap.
Johnson scored A+ in all of his 10 subjects while his twin brother Jackson scored 9As.
Johnson, who wished to be a professor in accountancy, said he was happy with his result.
“I was actually worried about my biology and physics after the exam,” he said.
Jackson said he will continue on to Form Six and hoped to get a scholarship to fulfill his dream as a pilot.
They said frequent revisions as well as regular exercises were their secret to success.
Lydia Lim, another top scorer, said the result was better than her expectation. She scored 9A+.
“I wish to be a dentist. I hope I could get a scholarship to further my study,” she said.
She added that if she could get a scholarship, it would help to reduce her father’s financial burden.
For SMK Batu Lintang, the passing rate increased 0.13 per cent from 94.67 per cent to 94.8 per cent.
Out of the total 270 students who took part in SPM, 19 scored straight As.
Meanwhile, SMK Kuching High recorded a 1.71 per cent decrease in their total pass rate. The rate dropped from 93.81 per cent in 2009 to 92.1 per cent last year.
Nevertheless, the school recorded 42 top students where one of them scored 11As. 12 students scored 10As, 14 students 9As and 15 students 8As.
Sharing her learning experiences, Alyssa Goh said, “Never do the revision last minute”.
She said she was surprised to score A in the Chinese subject. She scored As in the other nine subjects too.
“If I can get a scholarship, I wish to study psychology. If I can’t get it, I’ll apply to the teachers’ training college,” Goh said.
The first person Hee Han Li called to share her joy was her father. She scored 10As.
“The result is better than my trial-exam. I’m very happy. I’ll study hard so that I could become a dentist,” she said.
