MRC Kapit to collect donations for Japan

KAPIT: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kapit Chapter will collect donations in aid of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami victims.

MRC Kapit chairman Dr Sia Tih Kong said donations will be collected on April 29 from 2pm to 3pm at Chong Seng Food Court, Jalan Penghulu Nyanggau.

“In view of the vast devastation, destruction in the Japan earthquake and tsunami and on humanitarian grounds, corporate firms, businessmen, associations, clubs and individuals, please donate generously and willingly to help those victims,” he said after a committee meeting on Thursday night.

Donations by cheque should be made out to Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kapit.

All donations, regardless of amount, will receive an official receipt and be tax exempt. The full amount collected will be remitted to the MRC Sarawak headquarters and subsequently handed over to the national headquarters.

The death toll from the March 11 disaster has surpassed 10,000, with more than 17,000 still listed as missing.
