Tawau crime rate falls

TAWAU: The district recorded a decrease of 122 crime cases in the first three months of this year compared to last year.

District police chief ACP Ibrahim Chin said from January 1 to March 24 the district recorded 154 cases and solved 74 cases compared to 276 cases and 82 cases solved in 2010, and 221 cases and 62 cases solved in 2009.

“The crime study showed a decrease of 122 cases,” he said in his speech during the 204th Police Day celebration here yesterday.

He said cases such as break-ins, street crime, and motorcycle thefts were mainly committed by youths though there was a very significant decrease in snatch and robbery cases.

Meanwhile, several media including the See Hua Daily News, The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo received recognition from the Tawau police department for their role in dispersing crime and awareness news to members of the public.
