SINGAPORE: Micro contamination control services provider for the hard disk drive (HDD) industry MClean Technologies Bhd (MClean Technologies) plans to further expand its existing plant in China.

STRATEGIC RELOCATION: Chow (left), seen here with MClean Technologies' executive chairman Jason Yeo, explains that the intention behind the company's expansion plan in China is to relocate its precision cleaning operation from Techsin Wuxi to a new facility, also in Wuxi.

Currently, the Singaporean-based technology company manages a core precision plastic injection moulding operation there, under an operating entity named Techsin Electronics (Wuxi) Co Ltd (Techsin Wuxi) at Wuxi city in the Jiangsu province.

Set up in 2006, the plant produces plastic parts using plastic resin materials as components for the HDD industry such as filters, media cassettes and trays, alongside components for other industries namely automotive, semiconductors as well as electric and electronic manufacturing.

“The acquisition cost for the new plant will be about 900 million Chinese renminbi (RM415.17 million). Completion date for the entire expansion is expected by July this year,” MClean Technologies’ chief executive officer Bert Chow told reporters during a media briefing held at the company’s plant in Woodlands here recently.

To note, the new facility had commenced operations in November last year.

Chow further explained that the intention behind the expansion plan in China was to relocate the precision cleaning operation from Techsin Wuxi to a new facility.

“As such, the existing plant will be able to cater solely on plastic injection moulding operation. Currently, Techsin Wuxi operates six units of electric injection machine and nine units of hydraulic injection machine,” the chief executive added.

Additionally, the new plant – also located at Wuxi – consists of three main operations namely clean rooms, cover washing and carbon dioxide (CO2) cleaning line. Chow highlighted that among others, the new Wuxi plant would be promoting a ‘greener’ operational practice where not only it uses less water, it recycles the water that has been used through a certain process –thus, discharging even lesser amount of used industrial water.

“Our manufacturing and outsourcing provision expertise in China remains quite strong, where we hold the second largest market share at 26 per cent out of the total. As such, we are confident to achieve our vision as the world leader in precision cleaning solution and precision plastic moulding provider for the global HDD industry,” said Chow.
