MUKAH: Minister of Housing and Urban Development Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday announced that the federal government has approved RM50 million additional allocation for building Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) in Sarawak under 10th Malaysia Plan.

The money will be channelled through Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) for building more than 600 RMR houses in collaboration with Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Sarawak, to be sold at discounted price of RM79,000 each to house buyers earning less than RM2,500 per month.

Abang Johari made the announcement when he spoke at the earth-breaking ceremony of Kampung Nelayan Mukah RMR housing project here.

He was the guest-of-honour at the function attended by Mukah member of parliament Dato Sri Dr. Muhammed Leo Michael Toyad, Pantai Damai incumbent-cum-chairman of Daya Builders Sdn Bhd Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, SPNB managing director Datuk Dr Kamarul Rashdan Salleh, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Developement Affandi Keli, deputy Mukah Resident (social) Philip Peter Salam, District Officer Mohamad Nawawi and other heads of government departments and agencies.

Abang Johari also annouced that he will officiate at the ground breaking ceremony of Rumah Chabu longhouse in Bakong, Miri, being the first Iban longhouse to be built according to the modern design and concept which incorporates fire insurance policy and proper ownership of every ‘bilik’ (door units) sometimes in April next month.

Touching on the Kampung Nelayan Mukah RMR housing project, Abang Johari disclosed SPNB and HDC would construct some 347 detached RMR houses on a 9.4 acres site, whereby qualified buyers would only pay two-thirds of the building costs while the balance subsidised by the caring Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

In this regards, it is very important for the people to support BN government to preserve the prevalent political stability and econmic progress enjoyed by all Sarawakians, said Abang Johari who is BN-PBB incumbent for Satok and PBB deputy president.

Abang Johari also took the opportunity to call on Sarawakians to reject the Opposition and vote for BN in this coming election, to cement greater bond, relationship and understanding between the federal and state government to enjoy more funds under National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) and also to attract more investments into Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), a brainchild of Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

After the function where Dr Muhammed Leo and Dr Kamarul Rashdan also spoke, Abang Johari and his entourage also visited the newly-completed Mukah low-cost housing project Phase 1 at Jalan Petanak here.
