KAPIT: Civil servants here were urged to be proactive and readily take part in sports activities.

In doing so, the health of their mind and body will surely be enhanced, said a political secretary to the chief minister Wilson Nyabong Ijang.

“Sports activities are vital to create a healthy mind and body and hence civil servants, apart from executing their duties must also take part in sports activities to keep themselves physically fit and healthy.

“In this light the government encourages civil servants to take part actively in sports activities that could deter them from indulging in social ills,” Nyabong said when officiating at the opening of Kapit Division Maksak Badminton tournament held at the Integrated Sports Complex along Jalan Bletih on behalf of the Kapit member of parliament recently.

“With a healthy mind and body, civil servants were more productive thus could improve their efficiency and delivery system,” he added.

A total of 12 teams from the various government agencies took part in the 3-day tournament that ran from March 25 and ended yesterday.

Nyabong was also hopeful that more women would be taking part in future competitions as badminton had produced world-class players in Malaysia, including the current world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei.

He said the competition would also help to further enhance their skill in the game apart from fostering closer rapport among civil servants.
