MIRI: The government will continue to intensify youth development programme and activities to ensure they could equip those youths in facing the challenges towards achieving the vision of developed nation by 2020.

Piasau incumbent Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan said Barisan Nasional (BN) always ensured that all programmes and activities were geared towards the nation’s vision.

“The youths represent the largest group in the country and could play an important role to the stability of the country. We want the younger generation to have a positive value required in the development of the country,” he said.
during the ‘Bersama Pemimpin – Karnival Mesra Belia 1 Sarawak held at Miri Indoor Stadium here recently.

Youth carnival is the platform for youth to show their capability, talents and leadership, he pointed out.

He said this programme emphasised the unity among the locals through activities like self-help, social, sports and more.

“This collaboration energy of young people is aimed to educate and guide them to be a better society.”

Commenting on the programme, Dr Chan noted that they managed to instill the spirit of unity among all races.

“I urge young people to seriously prepare for the challenging responsibilities, more so in the mainstream of development and globalisation,” he said.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Senadin and Pujut incumbents Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Andy Chia respectively as well as Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai.
