Qingming offerings go modern – PAPER offerings for the Qingming festival have evolved with the times and many modern objects are now available.

The modern items include iPads, double decker luxury buses, expensive sports cars, branded handbags, red wine and beer.

The replicas are so detailed that it can be hard to tell them apart from the real thing at first glance.

Good Samaritan’s car ruined – A GOOD Samaritan’s car was damaged by flood waters after he went to help flood victims near his village in Baling.

He parked his Perodua Kancil near the Pekan Kupang mosque to help other villagers at 2am on Tuesday.

When he returned for prayers at 6am, he found his car trapped under one metre of flood water. Over 300 houses in 18 villages were flooded after Sg Ketil and Sg Iboi burst their banks. — Harian Metro

Five gambling dens busted – SIX SUSPECTS, including a woman, were arrested after the police raided five illegal gambling dens at Kompleks Damai on Tuesday morning.

The simultaneous raids at 11am saw the authorities confiscate 65 sets of computers, which were used for gambling.

The illegal premises offered hundreds of thousands of ringgit in winnings and were open round the clock.

Police managed to enter the CCTV protected outlets by going undercover as customers. — Harian Metro

Squad to catch acid thrower – A SPECIAL police squad in Brickfields has been set up to catch a mysterious man on motorcycle who has been conducting acid attacks in the area since early this year.

The motive of the incidents is unknown as the man appears to be picking his victims at random.

Police have received over 10 reports related to acid attacks and three women have been seriously injured on their faces and bodies. — Harian Metro

Police nab cable thieves – POLICE arrested five men on Tuesday for cable theft around Hulu Selangor.

The men were burning reels of stolen cables to remove the rubber layer when the authorities pounced.

Two other men managed to escape.

A lorry full of cables was confiscated during the raid.

The group, which consists of locals and foreigners, is believed to have actively stolen cables for the high returns. — Harian Metro
