KUCHING: A group of six high profile media personnel from Switzerland is currently on a visit to Sarawak as part of its tour to the East Malaysia.

The group consists of media personnel from leading publications in Switzerland which caters mainly to the Swiss German speaking markets.

Whilst in Sarawak, the group visited the Semenggoh Rehabilitation Centre and the Bako National Park among others, to enable them to experience for themselves the destinations so that they will be able to write up on their experiences in their publications.

At a dinner hosted by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), the journalists commented that “Sarawak, Borneo is indeed a place which has the attractions that will appeal to the targeted markets. We will definitely be able to publicise and advertise your destination.”

The visit also resulted in positive networking and collaboration between the parties.

Dominik Joos, managing partner for the Tourism Malaysia PR Agency in Switzerland – Panta Rhei said he would come back to Sarawak but with his family next time.

“Sarawak has much to offer; nature, wildlife, a modern city but maintains the old charm, where the idea of maintaining an old building structure and converting them into a landmark or restaurant is an attraction itself.”

“This is what the Swiss people want to experience and not only the Swiss but most Europeans will travel more than 10 days to a destination; visiting homestay can also be another attraction,” he said.

This trip, made possible through the assistance of Singapore Airlines, Zurich and Tourism Malaysia, Frankfurt, is the outcome of Sarawak’s marketing efforts and presence in these regions and STB’s strategy of promoting the destination as a place where adventure lives. It has no doubt appealed to the media personnel and they will no doubt assist in publicising the destination.

Europe remains as one of the state’s traditional market and STB continues to maintain its presence there. As part of its strategies and initiatives, STB will continue to collaborate with the media to promote the destination.
