KUALA LUMPUR: A 91-year-old retired commercial manager has grabbed a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records with his amazing achievement as “the oldest to compose and produce a song album”.

The talented J Ajit Kumar has produced the album titled Geeton Ka Guldasta, which means bouquet of melodies, consisting of 40 song compositions.

Ajit said the idea was mooted by his only daughter, Dr Anita who wished to give him the recognition that he truly deserved and to show appreciation and awe at his God-given talent.

“I have never gone through formal training in singing or composing music.

“I believe this is a divine gift bestowed upon me at this point of life.

“When I was in my 70s, I joined a meditation group which actually motivated me to write poems, which over the years became the lyrics for my songs as I put music to the words,” said the nonagenarian at the launching of the album and presentation of the Malaysia Book of Records yesterday.

He said the album was the fruit of his hard work and concentration over the past 20 years in the field.

“Five of my tracks are commercial-based and another four are classical that reflect my life experiences, including family life,” he said.

He advised young talents in the country to keep up their hard work and passion to succeed in the field.

Ajit was born on Nov 29, 1919 in Bengal, India and came to Malaya in December 1946 to work in the hotel industry.

He retired as the commercial manager of H&R Johnson in 1980.

About 3,000 copies of the album were released and those interested to purchase the album could get it from music outlets at RM20.90 each. — Bernama
