KUCHING: A committee member of PBB Kampung Baru Sebuan Besar sub-branch in Bintulu has quit the party to contest under the ticket of Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) against the PBB Bintulu branch chairman Datuk Talib Zulpilip in the Jepak constituency in the coming state election.

Khamis Mahadi, when contacted yesterday, said he was motivated by his desire to try his luck in the polls when he decided to contest against his former boss.

“I have no problem with anybody in the party, including the YB (Talib). I just want to try my luck in politics after being a member of PBB since 1995,” he said, adding his decision to contest had nothing to do with Talib’s performance as the assemblyman in the constituency.

When asked whether anybody from the party had tried to discourage him from contesting against Talib in the election, Khamis disclosed that he even had a meeting with the incumbent on the matter. He said he told all of them that he was determined to contest in the election and would not change his mind.

However, it is rumoured that the former PBB man was said to be not happy with some unresolved issues in the constituency, mainly on the development matter.

Jepak has 13,000 registered voters.

In the previous election, Talib retained the seat with a 3,170 majority by garnering 4,997 votes compared with his challenger from DAP Wan Saimi Wan Dahlah who only secured 1,818 votes.
