Pedestrian, motorcyclist killed in Tawau

TAWAU: An 80-year-old man was killed by a lorry while crossing the road on Wednesday.

District police chief ACP Ibrahim Chin said the victim was crossing the road at Mile 4 Apas Road when he was hit by the lorry heading out of town.

The accident occurred at 2.50pm near the Rastamas building and according to witnesses, the victim was returning home after attending a funeral ceremony.

He said the victim is believed to be an illegal immigrant as no identification document was found on him.

This was the second fatal road accident reported in the district this week.

On Tuesday night, a motorcyclist died after colliding with a pick-up truck at Kilometer 16, Tawau-Bombalai Road.

The victim identified as Suparman Ahmad, 41, was believed to have overtaken another vehicle before crashing into the pick-up coming from the opposite direction around 7.30pm.

Ibrahim said the victim was coming from Bombalai and heading to Tawau. He suffered serious injuries on the head and legs and died on the spot while the pick-up driver, a 55-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
