Narrow escape for four as car plunges into pothole

KOTA KINABALU: Four people, including a woman, escaped death after the Proton Wira Aeroback car they were travelling in plunged into a 10-foot pothole at a road construction site along the Kolombong highway, near Taman Iramanis, Kolombong here yesterday.

It was said that the Proton Wira Aerobak car which was heading to Inanam from Luyang, had earlier rammed into a Proton Wira car and a Proton Waja car before the Aerobak driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the pothole around 11am.

The incident also caused the driver of the Proton Wira to lose control of the vehicle which drove up a traffic island before knocking a tree.

The Aerobak passengers, in their 20s, suffered serious injuries and the driver was reported to be unconscious.

Passers-by pulled the victims out from the vehicle that was inside the pothole. They were then taken to a hospital for treatment.

Two people from the Proton Wira car and three people, including a 10-year-old girl from the Proton Waja car, escaped with only minor injuries.
