‘Banking’ on the natural healthcare market

Bumiputera lady entrepreneur finds niche in alternative electro physiotherapy services in Kuching

KUCHING: For Bumiputera entrepreneur Zaina Anas, total well-being would mean having one’s health at its optimal level.

“No matter how successful one is, to live without a healthy body and mind would make one become less energetic to do what he or she loves doing,” she told The Borneo Post. “Moreover, the way we live nowadays is not very beneficial to our body.

Pollution, hectic schedules and non-wholesome food on the go – all these factors will, over the long term, harm our health.”

The home-based businesswoman would know this. A few years back, she suffered a number of health problems that made her lethargic and sickly most of the time. This continued on for quite some time, until she learned about a relatively new field of medical treatment called ‘electrostatic field therapy’.

“A friend of mine from Kuala Lumpur introduced the treatment that harnessed the power of static electricity to remove toxins from the body by way of magnetic force. From what I understand then, toxins in our body also consisted of ionic charges that would react to electromagnetic force.

“Specifically, the therapy used this concept to leech these toxins out of our bodies through the natural process of waste disposal such as sweat and urine, thus relieve us from the damaging effects caused by the toxins,” she explained.

Consequently, the discovery had not only triggered Zaina’s interest to share such novel concept to everybody – the business instinct within told her that the therapy could present itself as a niche business opportunity here.

“Together with a business partner from Kuala Lumpur, we started the company, Mazara Enterprise, back in April 2009 with our first centre set up at the MJC (Batu Kawah New Township) with an initial investment of some RM60,000. However, we found out later that logistics became a problem for customers to come for our services,” she disclosed.

Another challenge that the entrepreneur faced during the time was the lack of understanding on the new treatment.

“The most notable challenge at the time was having customers complaining to us about the sickness they experienced after a few sessions, which made some them becoming discouraged.

“Most likely, they did not understand that they could be experiencing what we called ‘healing crisis’ where the body would react one way or another to the detoxification process. “It is like how one would feel scratchy whenever a wound is beginning to heal,” Zaina pointed out.

Nevertheless, she also mentioned that not everybody could benefit the use of electrostatic therapy.

“We strongly advise against the use of our product to pregnant women, heart patients with ‘pacemaker’ devices that are battery-operated, and those who are confirmed of having cancer. While restrictive, we believe that it is better not to take chances with other people’s lives in order to gain profit. It is just not ethicallycorrect,” remarked Zaina.

Notwithstanding this, the business continued to weather such setbacks and had undertaken a number of restructuring exercises, including relocating the premise to its current location at the ground floor of Plaza Astana in Petra Jaya near here in September last year.

“Now, we are quite satisfied with the response given by our existing, as well as new clients,” enthused Zaina. Open daily from 10am to 8pm except on Mondays, the shop receives an average of 30 clients per day.

It offers each customer an electrostatic field therapy service for 30 minutes priced at only RM6 per session.

For additional specific treatments namely heat therapy and leading prong apparatus, clients only need to add up RM2 for each extra service on top of the basic half-hour therapy.

“The market is big enough for everybody,” responded Zaina when asked about competition.

“What we can offer to clients are our expertise using only the best products. Our supplier Cosmic Nature Healthcare Sdn Bhd (Cosmic Nature) has passed the TUV Rheinland LGA Product Certfication from Germany; known for its stringent standards for the global healthcare industry. Locally, the products are certified by our very own Sirim.”

Going forward, Zaina expressed her hope for the business to have more branches.

“Right now, we are eyeing several locations in Petra Jaya that we deem are very viable to expand into. We also plan to add one more Cosmic Nature machine to add up to the existing three that we have.”

Obviously, Zaina has found her niche in the market – in a very ‘electrifying’ way.
