TAWAU: The Kee family will organize its second reunion on September 3 after their first reunion in 2008.

The Kee family is among the biggest family in the state coming from the first government officer Kee Kim Swee or also known as Kee Abdullah who was appointed by the British government in 1894 for the district.

His name is synonymous with Tawau town because Kee together with the first village head, Pua Ado (a man from the Bugis Wajo race) were the pioneers in Tanjong, a business center that is known as Tawau today.

Organizing program chairman Haji Kee Hamid Kee Sulaiman said the program would become a historical chapter not only for the Kee descendants but also the town.

He said about 3,000 people are expected to attend the program and the colour purple had been chosen for the attire of every family member.

Among the programs that would be held are an exhibition on the history and Kee family heritage, the history of Tawau, lucky draws and souvenirs for family members who are above 65-years-old.

“State Finance Assistant Minister Datuk Tawfiq Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Titingan, who is also a descendant of the Kee family, is the program patron,” he said when met after chairing the meeting for the reunion at the Tawau Sports Complex hostel conference room.

Kee Hamid expressed hoped that the program would attract more descendants of the family to attend the reunion.

“Even though many are living in Tawau, there are also many Kee descendants residing all over the state, peninsular and overseas,” he said adding he hoped they would be able to come that day and get to know their relatives.
