TAMBUNAN: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has planned and implemented various programmes to upgrade the role and responsibility of its members towards mankind.

Radio communication is one of its strategies to improve the performance of its members and the organization in times of emergency or natural disaster when the normal communication system fails or not available.

“With the skills, members can interact among themselves or with members from other countries to consolidate their teamwork in providing humanitarian aid to the needy at anytime and anywhere around the world”, said chairperson of the MRCS Sabah branch, Elizabeth Sikayun, whose text was read by its secretary at the basic radio communication workshop at its branch office at KM3, Jalan Tuaran last Saturday.

Elizabeth also called on members to disseminate the knowledge and skills obtained from the workshop to members of their respective chapters and units.

“Knowledge and skills must be shared to strengthen the capacity and ability of members in serving the community and nation”, she said.

“Such network is necessary and in voluntary services, every idea and view, manpower and skill, support and assistance from the members and the public are vital for the success in voluntary work,” she explained.

Elizabeth also called on members not to misuse the facility to avoid their license being canceled or fined by the authority concerned.

Workshop adviser and assistant director (training), Simon Chin in his welcoming speech thanked the participants for their attendance and advised them to prepare and sit for the radio operator examination to qualify themselves as legal operators

The one day course was conducted by Marius Bingkuloh from the education bureau and Tan Boon Kun from Sabah Amateur Radio Kota Kinabalu.

The workshop was attended by 20 members comprising officers and adult members.
