SIBU: A Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) member Patrick Goh Pasu described the decision by the party’s national level selection committee to put George Chen to contest in Machan as ridiculous.

He said Chen was an outsider and unknown in Machan.

“The committee had made a last minute decision to make the change,” he said in his handwritten letter to See Hua Group newspapers here yesterday.

According to Goh, he was tipped to represent PKR in Machan and the decision was made known during a closed door meeting in Kuching on March 30.

The decision, he said, was made by the state’s PKR election selection committee.

He said Chen was supposed to represent PKR in Dudong but it was given to Democratic Action Party (DAP).

“Somehow he (Chen) went to Kuala Lumpur to meet PKR national leaders telling lies and manipulating the state’s committee decision earlier on,” he said.

“Here I want to clear my good name and I do not want people in Kanowit to think otherwise.

“I wish to appeal to my supporters, Chinese, Malay, Iban and relatives in Machan not to support
Chen.

“Deep inside my heart, I am still with PKR,” said the 52-year-old former medical assistant at Sibu Hospital.

Meanwhile, Chen will meet another candidate from the opposition – Augustine Liom from Sarawak National Party – and long-serving incumbent Datuk Gramong Juna from Barisan Nasional/Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu.

Nomination day is tomorrow.
