KOTA KINABALU: More than 1,000 Sarawakian Chinese are expected to return to their hometown for the election.

Kota Kinabalu Foo Chow Association president Dr Ling Hie Sing said that yesterday, adding that the KK branch has around 3,000 members, where Sibu Sarawakians made up the majority.

Nonetheless, he said the number of Sarawakians going back to vote could be higher considering members from other branches in Sabah such as Beaufort, Sandakan and Lahad Datu, as well as more than 30,000 Foo Chow descendants residing in Sabah.

Asked on pertinent issues that may affect Barisan Nasional (BN), Ling highlighted the issue of the renewal of land title and the premium, which he considered to be the most sensitive issue.

He added that there are some voters who are not satisfied with the government.

In addition, Ling viewed that those aged 30 and above would be more inclined towards Barisan Nasional while those below 30 would be leaning towards the opposition.

Ling is currently in Kuching, Sarawak when contacted yesterday.
