Bogus cop cheats youth

SANDAKAN: A man who impersonated a policeman cheated a youth of RM300 cash and a mobile phone.
District police chief ACP Rowell Marong disclosed that a man impersonating a policeman had approached a youth and demanded to make a search on him.
The incident happened on the ground floor of Wisma MPS at about 11am yesterday.
While searching, the impersonator took the victim’s mobile phone and RM300 cash.
Later, together with the victim, he took a taxi on the pretext of lodging a report at the police station.
Upon arriving at Bandar Leeta at Mile 4, the “policeman” alighted from the taxi and fled.
The victim lodged a police report a few hours later after it dawned on him that he had been conned.
In an unrelated incident, a bus conductress was robbed of her mobile phone and a handbag containing RM300 cash.
In her police report, she related that while waiting for her company’s bus, someone came from behind and snatched her handbag away.
Meanwhile, a teenager was robbed of his mobile phone and RM20 cash after leaving a cybercafé at Taman Mewah at 3am on yesterday.
The 18-year-old victim was confronted by a man with a knife while he was on his way home.
The robber fled on a motorcycle.
Marong confirmed the three cases and said police are investigating.
