Illegal jailed for having other’s MyKad

TAWAU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a 29-year-old illegal immigrant to eight months’ jail for possessing a MyKad belonging to another man, and ordered that he be referred to the Immigration Department after his release.

Hamka B. Idris, pleaded guilty before magistrate Egusra Ali to a charge under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Act which carries a jail term of not more than three years or fined not less than RM3,000 and not more than twenty thousand Ringgit.

Public prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused had in his possession a MyKad belonging to Armijib B Monib at the Tawau airport on March 24.

Police revealed that the accused had collected the MyKad in town and treated it as his MyKad. The accused used the MyKad to register himself for a flight to Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia flight number AK5156. However, he was detained by Immigration Department officers.
