TAWAU: Three local men aged between 20 and 26-years-old were jailed two years and ordered to be whipped three times each by the Session’s Court here yesterday morning.

Nazir Bin Abd Fatel, 20, Shahrizal Bin Lampero, 21, and Mohd Taufik Sawahirol @ Mohamad, 26, pleaded guilty before judge Hajah Egusra Ali to a charge under Section 395 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of not more than 20 years and whipping.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Syukor Abu Bakar told the court that the three accused had robbed Mohd Fazley Bin Wasimin and Dominic Bin Agat, 21, of their cellphones, a Nokia 1800 and a Nokia 7610 respectively, at Jalan Persisiran about 6.30pm on March 30.

While the two victims were having a rest at Jalan Persisiran, six unknown men threatened and asked for their cell phones. One of the men pulled Fazley’s shirt and robbed his cell phone and a wallet containing RM12 from his pocket. Another one robbed the cell phone from Dominic and ran away.

The victim, Fazley, then went to the Fajar police beat to seek help.

Nazir and Shahrizal were detained by police at the MARA building here and retrieved the Nokia 7610 from the pocket of Nazir.

About 2.50pm on April 2, Taufik was detained by the police at Jalan Tanjung Batu here and seized the Nokia 1800 from him.
