Teenager bound over for two years

KOTA KINABALU: A local teenager was bound over for two years with a good behaviour bond of RM2,000, with RM1,000 to be deposited with two local sureties in default six months’ jail for being a caretaker of a premises used for common gaming house activity.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus also ordered Liew Syh Herng, 19, to perform 100 hours community service as well as to report himself to the Tanjung Aru police station once a month for two years.

She meted out the sentence on Liew after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence at Lot B-13-1, at Kedai Famous Cafe in Millenium Centre, Jalan Pantai Kepayan here about 12.12am on Jan 16, this year.

The accused was charged under Section 4B (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which provides for a fine of between RM10,000 or RM100,000 for each of the gambling machines seized and a jail term of up to five years on conviction.

Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted the case.

In another court, magistrate Norhamizah Shaiffuddin rescheduled to May 9, this year for the sentencing of labourer Muktadil Sahibul, 51, charged with causing hurt to another labourer Abbas Hasirul with a machete.

Yesterday was supposed to be the sentencing of Muktadil but the prosecution told the court that the chemist’s report on the victim was still not ready yet, prompting the court to reschedule Muktadil’s sentencing.

The accused, who had pleaded guilty to his charge on March 3, admitted to causing hurt to Abbas at the construction site of Kepayan Police Headquarters here about 12.40pm on Feb 23, this year.

The offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine or whipping or with any two of such punishment.
