The deceased has been identified as Jimop Degok, 40, of Kampung Giam.

The incident came to light around 2am when a youth from Kampung Bunuk, who was heading towards the city, came across the victim’s body next to a damaged motorcycle by the side of road not far from his village.

He immediately called the Siburan police station, which sent a team of traffic police personnel to the scene to investigate.

Initial investigation revealed that Jimop, who worked as a lorry driver, was on his way back to his house when the incident happened.

It was believed his bike went out of control after it had crashed into a mound of earth by the side of the road.

Police later sent the body to the hospital for a post mortem.

In an unrelated accident, two young friends each broke a leg and suffered facial and body injuries after their car was involved in a head-on collision with a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The incident happened around 2am yesterday along Jalan Batu Kawah when the 21- and 23-year-old women were heading towards Taman Malihah.

According to eye-witnesses, the accident occurred not far from the junction leading to Taman Malihah after a pickup truck from Bau apparently veered into the opposite lane and slammed into the young women’s Perodua Viva.

A Perodua Kenari travelling behind the Viva was fortunate not to have been struck as well after the male driver managed to swerve to the side of the road and out of harm’s way.

The badly-injured women were helped out of their wrecked vehicle by passing motorists, who also helped to call for an ambulance.

Friends of the victims, who happened to be travelling along the same road when they came across the accident, helped send the younger woman to the hospital while the 23-year-old followed suit in an ambulance.

The pick-up truck driver sustained only minor injuries.

Police have impounded both vehicles pending an investigation.
