KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) is calling for more Sabah-based companies to apply for the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status to secure wider market for their products and services.
The MSC Malaysia status is a passport to a host of privileges reserved for ICT and ICT-facilitated business and is a mark of world class service and achievement.

Companies awarded with MSC Malaysia status will benefit from an array of world class facilities and premises that provide the opportune environment to a thriving and dynamic global ICT hub for the region.

The MSC Malaysia status is awarded to both local and foreign companies which develop or use multimedia technologies to produce or enhance their products and services as well as for process development.

“We believe the government will invest more in national information and communications technology (ICT) initiative to provide strategies and ensure implementation of all ICT programmes.

“MOSTI will open applications for MSC status to Malaysian companies to obtain maximum funding of RM3 million from the government,” said minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili at a press conference after attending the installation night of PIKOM Sabah Chapter at Magellan Sutera Harbour on Saturday.

According to Ongkili, the government is committed to the pursuit of a high income economy, especially in the innovation field. He added applicant companies must meet the qualifying criteria and successful companies must observe the conditions attached to MSC Malaysia-status recognition.

There are five types of applications available for the MSC Malaysia status namely from companies, institutes of higher learning, incubators, cybercities and cybercentres.
