MIRI: All Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates are carefully selected based on their ability to care for the people in their respective constituencies.

“We (BN candidates) are selected based on our ability to take care of the people, and we seriously carry out our responsibilities,” said Pujut incumbent Andy Chia Chu Fatt during a brief meeting to erect a new signboard in Kg Pujut Padang Kerbau last Sunday.

An accountant by profession, Chia told of his encounter with a young handicapped girl of about four years old during a function he attended with political secretary Datuk Sebastian Ting last year.

“This girl had been adopted as a few-month-old baby who was later found to suffer from an ailment causing her handicap,” said Chia who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) candidate facing Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate Fong Pau Teck in the coming 10th state election.

Ting and Chia were touched by the parents’ love for the girl despite her handicap, and had contributed a wheelchair and other needs to help ease her difficulties.

The parents’ love for the girl is now immortalised in the large poster to be erected at the junction of the village where they stayed and the Miri-bypass main road.

“The poster is to remind people that the BN government is a caring one, and we will not forget the welfare of the people which is our responsibility,” he added. The poster also serves to counter unfounded allegations that  BN government ignored the poor and unfortunate villagers.
