KUCHING: Satok incumbent Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg pledged to modernise villages in Satok if he wins this Saturday.

The Housing and Urban Development Minister said he planned to build a waterfront stretching from a hotel at the present Kuching Waterfront to Kampung No. 5 near Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol.

“We want to beautify the river so that we can have our own little Venice here.

“We will also have pontoons at Sungai Lajim so that the public can use water taxis to move around,” he said at the ‘ceramah’ near Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol on Tuesday.

The RM1.5 million Sungai Lajim upgrading project is expected to be completed by September this year.

Abang Johari told those present that his future actually rest on the hands of the people of Satok constituency.

“I’m actually only your representative.

“The ones who are contesting are actually the people…and I will pray for your success,” he said.

The PBB deputy president also mentioned that he believed Sarawak is indeed BN’s “fixed deposit”.

“The opposition must not attempt to challenge the people of Satok and Sarawak. We (BN) will continue to guard the dignity of the people here,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who also spoke at the gathering, said that Sabah BN would help their counterpart in the state in any way they could.

“I came here with a big entourage from Sabah to help our BN friends to achieve victory in this election.

“The PM had said that Sabah and Sarawak are BN’s strongest fortress and we must prove this by ensuring BN wins big.”

Musa told those present that he was very impressed with the development taking place in Sarawak all these years.

Also present were Sabah State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak and former Penang Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin.
