PPP tells members to support BN

KUCHING: People’s Progressive Party (PPP), which has over 40,000 members in Sarawak, will give their fullest support to state Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates.

A statement by PPP Sarawak deputy secretary Matthiew Usun on Tuesday said party members have been requested to help BN in their respective constituencies.

“Members are urged to help in whatever way they can to highlight BN’s achievement, BN manifesto and BN’s goals to achieve our nation’s Vision 2020,” he said.

According to him, half of PPP’s 40,000 members are in Kuching, Petra Jaya and Santubong.

The others are spread over Sri Aman, Sarikei, Bintangor, Selangau, Sibu, Bintulu, Kanowit, Kapit, Miri and Limbang.

Matthiew also said PPP members are encouraged to promote Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) which is “a great example of state BN government to help the state to prosper”.

“Members have been advised to help on a voluntary basis as we are a BN component party at the federal level. During the Sarawak state election, let us stay united in the BN spirit under the leadership of our able and dynamic Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” he said.

PPP, a Peninsula-based BN component, had caused an uproar among state BN leaders three years ago after spreading its wings to Sarawak.

The state BN leaders protested this move because they were not consulted on the matter.

They also pointed out there was an agreement that BN political parties cannot set up branches in Sarawak and vice versa.

They even accused PPP, which is without a representation in the Parliament after being wiped out in the 2008 election, of trying to get a seat in Sarawak.

Its president Datuk M Kayveas was recently quoted as saying that PPP’s venture into Sarawak was not to demand for seats but to help state BN remain in power.
