MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Dr Michael Teo’s election petition to nullify Senadin’s result should be handled by experienced lawyers as it requires technical expertise.
“This petition to nullify the Senadin election results is very technical, and is best left to the experts,” said newly elected Democratic Action Party (DAP) Piasau assemblyman Alan Ling Sie Kiong yesterday.
Dr Teo narrowly lost the Senadin election by less than one per cent margin of 58 votes to SUPP’s incumbent Datuk Lee Kim Shin, and had cried foul when his requests for a recount was ignored by the returning officer.
Ling will only be able to offer assistance in other areas to Dr Teo, but preferred to leave the case in the hands of lawyers experienced in such a technical case.
“Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has many lawyers, and we have some very experienced ones who can take on the case, like perhaps PKR’s Baru Bian or DAP’s Wong Ho Leng,” said Ling a young lawyer who chambered for nine months with Karpal Singh’s legal firm in Kuala Lumpur before returning to open his legal practise in Pelita Commercial Centre here.
He suggested that Dr Teo leave his case in the hands of capable lawyers to focus on the general elections, and perhaps tackle Sibuti parliament in a repeat fight against Ahmad Lai whom he lost to, in 2008.
