KUALA LUMPUR: MCM Value Sdn Bhd (MCM Value), a company specialising in value management is hoping for more Malaysians and in particular the business community, to give greater emphasis to its application.

In this regard, its president, Dr Mohd Mazlan Che Mat said there should be a centre for this value management programme, that would act to create major awareness among the public and monitored by the government.

“An endorsement from the government, for value management will be a good starting point for MCM Value to develop,” he told Bernama in a recent interview.

He said the centre could be used for research and development as currently, Malaysia has a lot to do in terms of value management.

“Basically, we enhance and trigger public creativity and innovation in evaluating and understanding, the real needs of a particular market,” Mazlan said.

The individuals may come from the local consulting community, government authorities or bodies, universities or may be technical experts desired by the customer and/or customer representatives.

“In the US, any project beyond US$10 million must go through the strategic planning and financial management process. In Japan, it is US$5 million.

“Fortunately in Malaysia, the Economic Planning Unit of the government has made it mandatory, for any project or programme costing RM15 million and above, to undertake this process,” Mazlan said.

He also urged local universities to play a major role in producing more graduates in the area of value management, not just at the undergraduate level, but also the post-graduate stage.

He said at present, the programme was embedded in the subjects taught at about seven local universities, including Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi MARA and Universiti Sains Malaysia.— Bernama
