ALOR SETAR: Kedah Umno is making available free Internet facility at state assemblymen’s service centres throughout Kedah.

Kedah Umno liaison chief Datuk Bashah Md Hanipah said the initiative was meant for the public, especially school children.

“The students will be able to access education portals to get accurate information quickly, just like their counterparts in other countries,” he told reporters after distributing 1Malaysia computers to 389 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tunku Abdul Rahman here yesterday.

He urged telecommunication service providers to widen broadband services to include more locations in rural areas to enable residents to access the Internet.

In addition, he said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would distribute 30,000 1Malaysia computers to 178 secondary schools in Kedah from yesterday till June. — Bernama
