KUCHING: Masterpiece, a rock band from Sibu who has won immensely at the Dayak Music Award (DAMA) 2010, will be battling it out once again at the Anugerah Juara Rentak Ruai (AJARR) fifth edition.
The band which made their debut in the Iban music industry in 2009 with their album ‘Merindang ke Bintang’, won Best New Artiste (Iban) and Album of the Year at DAMA last year.
They hope their good luck will hold with their hit song ‘Sinu’ to win one of the big awards at 5th AJARR, said organiser CATS FM in a press statement yesterday.
“For us, AJARR is a yardstick for Masterpiece to know our real strength as a band and how far the genre of music that we have chosen is accepted by the Iban community. We are just delighted to be given the opportunity to compete with other talented artistes and this is a great platform for us to go far in this industry,” said Masterpiece’s vocalist and guitarist Edwin.
He said the six-piece band, made up of himself and Depha as vocalists, Will and Ken (guitarists), Marcus (bassist) and Herald (drummer) is in the process of recording a new album which is expected to meet their growing fans latest next year.
He said he hoped their fans would give them support and vote for ‘Sinu’ to win the Most Popular Song at 5th AJARR, which also competed with 14 other popular Iban songs last year.
Meanwhile, another finalist, Lucy M is not new to AJARR as her song ‘Semina Tinggal Pengingat’ entered the finale last year.
Then again, Lucy promises a difference in her performance this May 21 as she is working on her dance steps and vocals.
“Of course, I’m hoping ‘Dendam Enda Padam’ will fare much better compare to ‘Semina Tinggal Pengingat’ which bagged second Most Popular Song Award last year,” she said.
Lucy is thrilled that the Iban music is getting more recognition by the music industry in the country, adding that “it definitely helps my career to soar and grow”.
‘Dendam Enda Padam’ is composed by Peter Ting and made its way to the top of the Rentak Ruai chart on CATS FM for two weeks in a row.
