Father uses bulldozer to demolish son’s house after dispute

MARANG: A family dispute over the ownership of a plot of land has resulted in the father attempting to demolish his own son’s house using a bulldozer at Batu 13, Jalan Kuala Berang, here Sunday.

The father, 67, and his three stepsons had also threatened Yusof Mat Yasin, 52, the son of the 67-year-old, at about 9am.

Yusof when met by reporters said 30 years ago he had built his house on the plot of land situated next to the land of his father but the latter had complained that his house had encroached his land.

He added that his father had many times before requested him to vacate the house but since he did not, the father had retorted to such action. Yusof said the kitchen and porch of his house were badly damaged while the father and his three stepsons had also disconnected electricity and water before trying to demolish his house.

The victim who is a contractor said he was with his wife and daughter in the house when they heard a loud noise outside the house and saw his father and three stepsons trying to demolish his house.

“We were afraid to come out of our house but my eldest son who was in my neighbours house managed to lodge a police report at the Bukit Payung police station,” he said.

Yusof said the demolition act only stopped when the police arrived while damages were estimated at about RM40,000.

Meanwhile, state CID chief ACP K Manoharan said four men aged between 30 and 67 were detained and remanded to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
