PETALING JAYA: A woman has claimed that she was cheated of RM13,000 by a policeman who promised to secure bail for the release of her two sons who were detained for allegedly involved in motorcycle theft.

Rani Rahmah Ismail, 59, said her sons, Mohamad Ramadan Mohamed Ali, 22, and Mohd Rafe, 20, were arrested on March 8 at their house in Batu Caves, Gombak.

“Six policemen said that my sons had to be detained to assist investigations, but they did not tell me for what case,” she told reporters at her lawyer’s office here yesterday.

She said that two weeks after her sons’ arrest, she received a call from a policeman, who claimed to be one of those who arrested her sons, for her to pay RM30,000 as bail for her sons’ release.

“I told him I did not have the money. Three days later, he called again and asked for RM13,000, which I gave him by depositing the money into a bank account,” she added.

She said after the money was deposited, she was told by the policeman to go to the Rawang police station to take her sons home, but was informed by the policemen there that her sons had yet to be released. — Bernama
