‘SNAP should close shop’

Entri says party no longer has the political impact as in the old days

BEKENU: SNAP should take into account the rout its candidates, including its president, suffered in the recent state election, and close shop.

Assistant Minister of Public Utilities ( Water Supply) Sylvester Entri Muran said this when asked to comment on the proposed merger between SNAP and DAP, and the announcement that SNAP has left Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to be on its own.

The vice-president of SPDP said it was clear that SNAP was on its way out of politics as it had lost the people’s support, judging by its thrashing in the election.

He also pointed out that DAP was only trying to milk SNAP to gain a foothold in Dayak-majority areas.

In the April 16 state election, all of SNAP’s 26 candidates were defeated, with 25 of them losing their deposits.

Entri, standing for Barisan Nasional (BN), handily won Marudi, defeating SNAP president Edwin Dundang Bugak, PKR’s Gerang Dagom and independent Michael Ding Tuah. He polled 4,578 votes while Dundang managed only 281 and lost his deposit.

“The results were very clear that the people of Sarawak rejected SNAP, where 25 out of its 26 candidates lost their deposit, but it is still talking like it is a major political force in announcing that it is leaving the PR,” he mused.

BN won 55 out of the 71 state seats, with the rest won by DAP (12), PKR (3) and Independent (1).

“There is no political impact and it is no longer SNAP of the old, and it is just a political game of DAP to say they want to merge with SNAP when it is already out of Pakatan while DAP is still in it.
